I don't know if Microsoft will truly help businesses market better or not. But nonetheless, this clip they produced sums things up NICELY.

I eat cereal almost every day. It's irresistible to me. My mouth is full of Grape Nuts even as I write this.

I eat it even though I know it's not a good thing to eat a lot of. In fact, it's freakin' BAD for you. (And that's coming from an avid cigar smoker.)

Even the healthier cereals like Special K and Wheaties (the breakfast of champions) contain corn syrup and cleaning agents such as trisodium phosphate (which you can find in any hardware store).

So what's up with all this "Nourishing Lives" crap, General Mills? Seriously -- General Mills' front website page displays the tagline, "General Mills is Nourishing Lives." Why have we been told for so many years that cereals (of ALL brands names) are nutritious and fortified with vitamins and an excellent source of calcium and blah blah blah?

General Mills, we've gotta be honest with you: That is such garbage. Your marketing should talk about how good your cereals (and your other foods) make people feel, or about how TASTY your cereals and ice-creams and yogurts are after a hot, sweaty day of mowing a 1.5 acre lawn. There are limitless ways to market your products. Try getting deeper into social media.

But Trisodium Phosphate does not nourish people's bodies or lives. Neither does high fructose corn syrup, or whatever else you GM people put into your cereals. (This goes for you too, Kellogg's and Post!)

Stop treating us like stupid people, General Mills (and the others). You are not in the health food business. You are in the JUNK food business, so stop lying to me. If you're really afraid that people will stop eating your products because of health concerns, then stop putting cleaning agents in your products. Either make healthier/organic products, or market your CURRENT products better. But don't create marketing that tells me your current products are nourishing. That just makes me want to vomit. (Which I should probably go and do anyway in order to cleanse my body of all that Trisodium Phosphate.)

Companies worldwide need to start matching their marketing. And consumers need to start TRULY holding them accountable. Marketing doesn't necessarily have to change. (GM could keep their "nourishing" marketing if they'd make "nourishing" products.) But many COMPANIES do need to change. GM, Please don't b.s. me anymore. Match your marketing, instead.
